The Ogun State Police Command has filed a six-count cyberbullying charge against social media activist Adetoun Onajobi, popularly known as Just Adetoun, over alleged online harassment and false publications against Governor Dapo Abiodun and the Ogun State Government.
The charges, now before the Federal High Court, Abeokuta Division, stem from allegations that Onajobi used social media and other internet-enabled platforms to spread false information and bully the governor, contrary to provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the activist was declared evasive after repeatedly failing to honour police invitations.
According to the command, Onajobi was invited for questioning on January 2, 2026, but failed to appear. Her lawyer subsequently informed the police that she was medically indisposed, attaching a medical report to support the claim.
However, the police said investigations later revealed that the medical report was fabricated.
Babaseyi said the medical doctor who issued the report was arrested and later admitted that the document was false and prepared at the suspect’s instruction during a phone conversation.
Following the admission, the doctor was arraigned before an Ogun State Magistrates’ Court on charges of conspiracy, uttering a false document and obstructing the course of justice.
The police said Onajobi has since avoided all attempts to reach her.
“The suspect has remained evasive and her current whereabouts are unknown,” the statement said, adding that the command would exhaust all lawful means to apprehend and produce her before the court.
The command also stressed that constitutionally guaranteed freedom of expression has legal limits and does not confer immunity from criminal conduct.
The case followed a petition over a series of videos posted by Onajobi on her social media platforms criticising Governor Abiodun’s performance in office.
In the videos, the Ogun-born activist accused the state government of abandoning victims of a December 2025 road accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway involving associates of Nigerian-born British boxer Anthony Joshua, who reportedly lost two friends and trainers.
She also alleged that Ogun State had no functional ambulance and accused the governor of prioritising social events over emergency healthcare, while claiming that the government purchased SUVs for local government chairmen during the same period.
The police said investigations were ongoing and that other suspects connected to the alleged dissemination of false information were being tracked.
